The EFL Playhouse:Right Hand, Left Hand

This is my right hand,
I'll raise it up high. (Raise right hand.)

This is my left hand,
I'll touch the sky. (Raise left hand.)

Right hand, (Show right palm.)

Left hand, (Show left palm.)

Roll them around. (Roll hands around.)

Left hand, (Show left palm.)

Right hand, (Show right palm.)

Pound, pound, pound. (Pound fists together.)

Teaching Tips

Take time to review parts of the body before introducing this rhyme.
Give each child two index cards. Have them trace or write the word "right" on one index card and "left" on the other. Next, instruct them to put the "right" card in front of their right hand and the "left" card in front of their left hand. Direct them to point to the correct card as you say the words.
Along with a right hand and a left hand, what other body parts do children have a right and a left of? Ask them and write their answers on the board. Then, let them race to point to their right foot, left ear, right eye, right arm, left knee, etc.
After children are familiar with the concepts of right and left, play a quick game of Simon Says using actions that require them to differentiate between right and left. (i.e. "Stomp your left foot." "Touch your right ear")
