Teaching Suggestions

Introduce the terms "lassie" and "laddie" as synonyms for "girl" and "boy." Have children repeat both words several times, then respond to simple commands (i.e. "If you are a lassie, stand up." Finally, have them tell you which they are.
Pre-teach or review all actions and directional words in the song. Play a simple listening game where students must listen to oral directions and respond only to those that apply to them. Only girls should respond to "Lassie, ..." directives, only boys to "Laddie, ...," and all students to "Children, ..." This may be played as an elimination game similiar to "Simon Says."
Divide more advanced students into groups, have them create one or more additional verses to the song, then have them teach their versions to their classmates.
